Final Report

During this semester, I have created the following additions to the ESL web page:

  • Academic Reading/Writing I Resources Page, including links related to course content and 11 Hot Pot exercises on vocabulary. 240 hits as of 12/18.
  • Academic Reading/Writing II Resources Page, including course related links and 12 Hot Pot vocabulary exercises. 97 hits of 12/18.
  • Academic Reading/Writing III Resources Page, including course related links and 10 Hot Pot vocabulary exercises. 100 hits as of 12/18.
  • Academic Reading/Writing IV Resources Page, including course related links and 12 Hot Pot exercises. 260 hits as of 12/18.
  • Basic Grammar Resources, including 11 sets of chapter-related links, and 17 interactive exercises. 208 hits as of 12/18.
  • Intermediate Grammar Resources Page, with 8 sets of chapter-related links and 5 interactive exercises. 169 hits as of 12/18.
  • High-Intermediate Grammar Resources Page, with 10 sets of chapter-related links. 30 hits as of 12/18.
  • Resources for Speaking and Listening, an extensive list of the best listening and pronunciation resources on the web, as well as resources on note-taking and links to all current text companion websites.
  • Additional Teacher Resources pages, containing links to some of the best lesson plan and research sites for ESL teachers.

It is interesting that I did not inform teachers about the availability of the sites until the first of December, but students apparently found and used them as they came on-line in mid-October, as the hit counters indicate. One full time faculty member and one adjunct both spoke highly of the usefulness of the materials, especially for students who can’t get to open lab hours to use the software at the college.

The course related resource pages now offer something for every academic ESL course offered at the college. They are easy enough for students to use to supplement and practice on their own, and they may also be used by teachers during lab times.
