This Website is the result of my work completing a Faculty Research Grant during the summer of 2007. The purpose of the grant was to research hybrid course best practices.

Many colleges and universities around the country have incorporated hybrid courses into their schedule. Some schools are more cutting edge than others. Some provide luke warm support to faculty while others such as the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee offer a resource site packed with tips for students and faculty.

DEFINITION OF A HYBRID COURSE

• At Austin Community College, hybrid courses are defined as those courses that are taught 50% on campus and 50% online.
• At the University of Washington, if less than 20% of the learning activities occur online, the course is labeled Web enhanced rather than hybrid.
• A hybrid course should include the best features of online learning and face-to-face work so that students are active, independent learners.
• Case studies, tutorials, self-testing exercises, simulations, and online group collaborations work well in the virtual environment.
