Preparing course content
for the 2001 Summer Institute; the participants will include administrators
and students, faculty and staff. The participants will be invited,
and the number capped at 12-16.
- Week One
- Developing
a database for a definition of leadership across the College community
- Writing a topical
outline for a 27-hour program offered over a course of three weeks
in three, three-hour classes
- Identifying
presenters from both within and outside RVCC to discuss from an
interactive and integrative perspective:
- Overview
of the Community College
- Overview
of NJ system of community colleges within the context of secondary
and post-secondary education
- RVCC Mission,
Goals, and Governance
- RVCC Financiering
- RVCC Programming
- Current
Leadership Models
- Week Two
Leadership Training Workshops under the direction of a consultant,
including perhaps:
- management/supervisory/leadership
skills
- communication
- customer contact
- personal improvement
- implementation
of relevant technologies
- organizational
development
- Week Three
RVCC Leadership Clinic
- Presenting
case studies of innovation at RVCC
- Bringing problematic
perspectives on innovative practice to the Clinic
- Planning for
AY 2001-2002 College-wide leadership diffusion
Preparing delivery
systems
- Scheduling three,
three-hour classes for three weeks
- Developing a WebCT
component for online discussion
- Scheduling library
orientation about the leadership database beginning in the fall
The College-wide
Leadership Program for AY2001-2002
Components might include:
- a book discussion
on leadership led by a faculty member and administrator;
- a panel discussion
on the changes confronting the community college system led by a faculty
member, administrator, and staff member;
- a panel discussion
tracing the path of a successful and an unsuccessful attempt at innovation
at RVCC;
- an invitation of
a speaker to address the college community on All College Day, January
2002;
- continuing online
the conversations on leadership using the CAITL website;
- publicizing opportunities
for attending conferences and delivering papers relating to leadership
in higher education, as well as participating in the J&J seat
program.
