




Detective Lieutenant Brian Hoey graduated in 1993 from the Somerset County Police Academy (Class #10) as an
Alternate Route Candidate. Since graduation he has been employed by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. He
began his career in the Somerset County Narcotics Task Force where he worked primarily as an undercover agent for six years. While assigned to the Task Force he was temporarily assigned to the United States Drug Enforcement Administrations Task Force, Newark Field Division (Group 6) where he assisted with drug enforcement operations throughout Central New Jersey. During his tenure at the Narcotics Task Force, Detective Sergeant Hoey testified numerous times in New Jersey Superior Court and is recognized by the courts as an expert in the field of narcotics investigations. In 1999 he was assigned to the Special Investigations Unit to investigate insurance fraud, high level thefts, embezzlement and public
corruption cases. In December of 2002 he was promoted to the rank of detective sergeant
and shortly thereafter became the unit’s supervising officer. He is also a team leader
on the Somerset County Arson Task Force, a certified firearms instructor as well
as a certified operator of the Computerized Voice Stress Analyzer. Detective Sergeant
Hoey received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from King’s College in
Wilkes-
