Communications
In this unit the trainee will learn how to take notes while making observations on duty as well as how to write clear, legible, and complete reports.

Emergency Medical Care
In this aspect of training the recruit will learn about first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and will become a certified ASHI First responder.

Weaponry and Unarmed Defense
This instructional unit educates the recruit in firearms safety, handgun and shotgun, shooting principles, range exercises, chemical agent devices, unarmed defense, baton techniques and side-handle baton techniques.

Correctional Security Concepts
This unit introduces the recruit to the role of security, key control, inmate counts, contraband and sub-economic system, drug identification, search of persons, search of cells and other areas, handcuffing, cell extractions, transportation of inmates, officer observation techniques, mob dynamics, crisis intervention and emergency plans, hostage survival, fire safety, communicable diseases and intake and release procedures.

Investigations
This instructional unit educates the recruit on the identification of evidence, marking, packaging and preserving evidence, and courtroom demeanor.

Physical Conditioning
Physical fitness is essential for all correction officers. In this unit the trainee will learn the importance of physical fitness, proper diet, the physical problems that typically affect law enforcement officers, how to assess their own level of fitness, the skills necessary for developing a physical program, and how to maintain a high level of fitness.
