How to Apply for Admission & Register for Classes

RVCC is an open access institution. SAT scores, letters of recommendation or essays are not required for admission. Students are required to submit official, final high school transcripts.

STEP 1 - Apply


Apply now online and follow these steps:
. Create a Login ID and Password by clicking on "First time user account creation"
. Complete requested information
. Submit application with $25 non-refundable application fee

After your application has been submitted, you can log into the Admissions System using your login and password and receive updates on the status of your application and admissions requirements.

You can also submit a hard copy application, along with the non-refundable $25 application fee, by mail, fax or in person. Mail applications to Student Enrollment Center, PO Box 3300, Somerville, New Jersey 08876.

Applications will be received on an on-going basis. Once your application has been received, you will receive an admissions packet from the College in the mail, along with a student ID number and instructions on registering for classes.

Students who are not seeking a degree or certificate:

If you are not interested in pursing a degree or certificate at RVCC, you register for classes using the Quick Admit Registration Form. Non-degree-seeking applicants are not required to submit proof of immunization, official high school or college transcripts or complete placement testing unless required as proof of meeting course prerequisites. Non-degree-seeking students are limited to 9 credits per semester.

STEP 2 - Take Placement Test


All students who are seeking a degree are required to take Accuplacer placement tests for English and mathematics prior to enrolling.

You do not need to take the reading and writing placement tests if you:

. Provide an SAT score report showing a "Verbal" or "Critical Reading" score of at least 540, or an ACT English score of at least 24
. OR provide proof of taking a college level English course, equivalent English placement exam, or at least 24 college credits at a regionally accredited college.

You do not need to take the math placement test if you:
. Provide proof of taking a college-level math course or equivalent math placement exam at another regionally accredited college.
. OR provide an SAT score report showing you have a math score of 550 (or ACT math score of 23), enabling you to place into college-level math. You have the option to test for placement in the calculus sequence.
. OR provide an SAT score of at least 530 but less than 550 (or ACT math score of 22) enabling you to place in Intermediate Algebra. You will have the option to test for placement into college-level math.

Students should consult an academic advisor to determine the appropriate math sequence for their major.

The College code for submitting SAT & ACT test scores is 2867.

Students whose native language is not English are required to take the Accuplacer Levels of English Proficiency Placement Test prior to enrolling.

Placement Testing is conducted at our Testing Center on the North Branch Campus. No appointment is needed. Make sure to bring a picture ID.

STEP 3 - Register for Classes


New Full-Time Students

You are required to attend a group registration session, College Advisement 101. The session will be held during the day during registration periods. Click here to register for College Advisement 101.

New Part-time Students

You are strongly advised, but not required to attend a group registration session, College Advisement 101. The session will be held during the day during registration periods and will take two - three hours. Click here to register for College Advisement 101.

If you place into Developmental English or Math, or English as a Second Language, you will not be able to complete your first registration on-line; you may register by mail, fax, or in person. Some Developmental English Placements will require a meeting with an Academic Advisor. Click here for the Advising Drop In Hours schedule.

New Part-time, Non-Degree Seeking Students

Non-degree seeking students are not required to meet with an advisor or take a placement test and can register for classes using the Quick Admit Registration Form found in the course schedule. You can register for classes in person, by fax or by mail.

Before registering for a class, check the course description for prerequisites. If prerequisites are required, and you have not completed those prerequisites at RVCC, then you need to provide proof that you have completed them elsewhere. Proof includes a grade report or an academic transcript.

STEP 4 - Submit Documents


Make sure to provide the Student Enrollment Center (located on the first floor of the College Center, North Branch Campus) with an official final high school transcript. In addition, you must submit to the Student Enrollment Center proof of compliance with the State of New Jersey requirements for immunization for Measles, Mumps & Rubella.

STEP 5 - Pay Your Tuition


Student must pay their full tuition & fees by the following dates:
Fall Semester: July 31 or at time of registration after July 31
Spring Semester: December 31 or at time of registration after December 31
Summer Semesters: March 15, 2008 or at time of registration after that date
Winter Session: At time of registration

RVCC offers a TuitionPay Monthly Payment Plan that enables you to spread out your payments. No interest is charged but there is an enrollment fee.

The College participates in all federal and state financial aid programs and also offers a number of scholarship opportunities.
