RVCC: The Secrets to Our Students' Success

1. An Accomplished Faculty

You will receive personalized instruction from experienced faculty who bring real-world experience, as well as solid academic knowledge, into the classroom. RVCC faculty includes critically acclaimed authors, Fulbright Scholars and Princeton Mid-Career Fellows. More than 30 percent hold doctorate degrees.

2. Small Class Sizes

Unlike at larger schools where students are taught in large lecture halls by teaching assistants, at RVCC classes are taught by the professors themselves, who get to know their students. Enjoy the advantages of small classes with an average class size of just 19 students.

3. Free Tutoring

RVCC students can take advantage of free tutoring services around the clock. At the Academic Support Center students can receive tutoring, as well as assistance in managing time and improving their study skills. Tutoring is also available online.

4. Cutting-Edge Technology

From the state-of-the-art labs in our Science Center to our wireless Internet access, RVCC is at the forefront in providing the latest technological advances.

All classrooms are equipped with network connections. Wireless access is available at a number of campus locations. More than 800 computers are available for student use.

5. Academic Scholarships

The College offers a variety of scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. Our innovative Galileo Scholarship provides faculty mentors and internship opportunities, as well as financial support, for students majoring in science, math, engineering and technology. RVCC's top students who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible to tap into more than $36 million in transfer scholarships offered nationally from the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, the international honor society for two-year colleges.

6. Honors Program

Students can pursue advanced study in various academic disciplines. Honors courses offer sophisticated use of research; introduce intellectually stimulating reading and critical perspectives; promote a higher level of discussion and written work; and encourage independent study and critical thinking. Students may enroll in individual honors courses at the College or in the complete Honors Program.

7. Service Learning

RVCC is a national leader in Service Learning, a program that enables students to serve in the community and receive academic credit for their work. Students have an opportunity to volunteer their services to a wide range of community and government organizations. Service learning projects include developing safety programs, tutoring and helping organizations with fund-raising activities and business plans. As a result of their experiences, many students continue their commitment to community service long after their participation in the program is completed.

8. Internships

RVCC students can get real-world experience by participating in a variety of off-campus internship opportunities at area businesses and organizations. Students may hone their skills in such areas as accounting, biotechnology, computer programming, public relations, computer networking and cyber security, criminal justice, graphic design, marketing, paralegal work, PC hardware and software support and web page development. Internships-some of which are paid positions-are available throughout the school year and summer.

9.Showcasing Students' Accomplishments

At RVCC, education extends beyond the traditional classroom experience. Students have numerous venues to showcase their craft, including art shows, dance and theatre performances and musical concerts. Opportunities are also available for students to have their works judged by professionals in the field. RVCC's online journal, Nota Bene, presents the best talent in various disciplines.

10. Transfer Opportunities

An RVCC education will prepare you to transfer to the top colleges and universities in New Jersey and across the nation. Seventy percent of RVCC graduates continue their education. RVCC students have transferred to some of the most prestigious universities in the country, including Harvard University, Columbia University, Cornell University, The College of New Jersey, NYU and Rutgers University. Under a new state law, RVCC graduates can transfer seamlessly with junior status to a four-year public college or university in New Jersey.
