All star level recipients must keep track of points they have earned and submit point sheets at the end of each semester. Certificates are awarded at the end of each semester.

Enhanced General Membership Star Levels

Depending on the number of events and the contribution of members, members will receive different star levels. Your star level will be noted on your student leadership transcript. Donations

Food Donations are welcome, but they will no longer earn member points.

Book Donations

Book donations are accepted for various functions throughout the year including:

  • Project Graduation
  • Books for Africa

Creating Flyers

Members will earn 8 points for each flyer they create promoting a PTK event. Members working together to create a flyer will share points equally.

Taking Pictures of Events

Members will earn 8 points for taking pictures during an event. You must email the pictures to an officer or burn a disk containing the pictures. A minimum of 20 acceptable pictures is required. You will also earn additional points for each hour you spend attending the event.

Written Summaries of Events

Members will earn 8 points for writing a written summary of an event. The summary should be professionally written so it may be submitted for publication in a local newspaper.

Running/Setting Up Events

Members will earn 8 points for each hour they spend running or setting up events.

Certain events require finite resources. As a result, point opportunities may be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Please contact an officer to make sure points for a particular event are available.

On the other hand, certain events desperately require your assistance. As a result, we may offer additional points per hour to encourage your participation.

Community Service (Non PTK Events)

The following events will NOT count towards enhanced membership points

  • Blood Donations
  • Cash Donations
  • Planning Non PTK events that do not benefit charities
  • Attending a conference or charity event
The following events will count towards enhanced membership points:
  • Active participation in the PTA organization.
  • Volunteer Work for public and private schools (other than planning meetings)
  • Organizing a charity event
  • Participating in additional Relay for Life events held at other locations
  • Participating in additional fund raising events (Walk-a-thons, AIDS walk etc.)
PTK members earn 8 points for each THREE hours spent participating in approved community service activities.

Submitting Points

Points can be submitted at any time during the semester. However, points should only be submitted once. Once you are satisfied with the amount of points you have accumulated, you can hand in your point sheets. We are only accepting one submission per semester.

All semester points must be turned in within 14 days following the end of final exams. Any points submitted after that time will count towards the next semester. If you are graduating, please make sure you turn in your point sheet within the allotted 14 days.

Please make a copy of your points before submitting them. We are not liable for lost/stolen sheets. As a result, you may be asked to resubmit your points if yours is lost or stolen.

Point sheets should be submitted by placing them underneath the PTK office door or placing them in a sealed envelope inside of the PTK mailbox. The envelope should be clearly labeled. Point sheets should NOT be handed directly to an officer.

Summer and Winter Events

There are additional opportunities to earn points during the summer and winter breaks. Summer activities count towards the following fall's points. Winter activities count towards the following spring's points.

Star Certificates

Fall certificates will be available in the PTK office by the first day of the spring semester.

Spring certificates will be available in the PTK office by June 21.

Miscellaneous Events

Any approved volunteer activity not listed above will earn eight points per hour.

Transferring Points Between Semesters Any points earned over your star level will carry to the next semester. For instance if you earn 140 points in a given semester, you will earn three star status. Since you only need 128 points for three star status, the remaining 12 points will carry over to the next semester. However, those extra points don't count towards the minimum requirements. They can only be used to move to the next star level.

Furthermore, star status carries over from semester to semester as long as a member maintains the minimum requirements for one star status. As a result, once a member reaches five star status, he/she will remain at five star as long as he/she maintains one star status every semester.

Another example would be a student currently at three star status. If the student earns 96 points, he/she would move from three star to four star status. The first 64 points counts towards maintaining the minimum requirements. The additional points count towards the next star level.

The bottom line is that if you've already achieved one star level or higher, the first 64 points of the next semester count towards maintenance of your star level and will not be taken into account when you submit your points at the end of the next semester.
