March 2008
Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society at Raritan Valley Community College, is pleased to announce a recent, annually renewable gift of $7,500 from the RVCC Foundation. Seventy-five percent of the generous donation will be used to permanently lower the honor society’s one-time membership fee from $92 to $50. Ideally, this will encourage students who have previously been deterred by the membership fee to become a part of the award-winning chapter. The balance of the donation will be used for expenses incurred at the annual Phi Theta Kappa International Convention.
In early April, approximately 3,500 Phi Theta Kappa officers, members, and advisors from around the world will descend on Philadelphia to participate in a three-day experience of education, information, instruction, and fellowship. Typically, the college can only afford to fund Phi Theta Kappa executive team members. However, due to the foundations generosity, chapter members will now be able to take part in this wonderful academic experience. In fact 24 officers, members, and advisors will be attending this Aprils convention.
Phi Theta Kappa will be holding its spring 2008 induction ceremony for new members on April 11th in the colleges Grand Conference room. During the ceremony, the RVCC Foundation will present a symbolic donation check to the honor society.
The Foundation was created in 1971 to raise funds above and beyond public and tuition sources to assist the College in providing affordable and quality educational and cultural experiences to the community. A volunteer Board of Directors manages these funds to support scholarships and programs that add value to the student experience on campus.
