The RVCC bookstore has begun a new chapter following an $80,000 renovation
during spring break.
The renovations to the store, near the information desk in the Somerset
Building, include a new paint job, to make the space brighter; new fixtures,
new floor, and a removal of the big window in the front to provide more
space. After three weeks, they were up and running for business.
The main purpose for renovations is to make the bookstore more welcoming.
Before it was dark and not inviting but now students can have a whole
new shopping experience. “The new lighting makes the store nice
and bright,” said manager John Gouldey.
About 200 students visit the store each day, and the school hopes the
improved store will draw even more people.
The bookstore not only meets the students' textbook needs but tries
to make it more accommodating for them. The students are able to buy
their books and a bag to put them in, or a snack to hold them over till
lunch. The bookstore aims to be your one-stop shop for all you college
needs.
The ideas for making the bookstore more accommodating came from the
students themselves. Lester Miller, executive director of Business Service
Purchasing & Contracts, sat with a group of students and picked
their brains to see what could be done to improve the store's overall
look.
The Golden Lions Bookstore has been in this location since 1980, and
this is the first time in 12 years it was renovated.
