Graduation Dec. 20

December graduation is being held on the 20th in RVCC’s theater.

Congratulations are in order to those students graduating at the end of the semester! According to RVCC records specialist Michelle Fisher, December graduation is a full-fledged ceremony just like in spring.
About 170 students are scheduled to complete their work and graduate this fall. The 116 students who completed their requirements over the summer are also invited to participate in the December ceremony. At press time fewer than 100 students had indicated they would attend.

The faculty speaker will be Communications Professor Bick Treut. He’ll talk about the lack of real, honest communication between people. People tend to communicate to create or maintain an image, he says, rather than share true thoughts and feelings.

Laurie Anderson will be the student speaker.

Anderson, who lives in Bedminster, returned to college while working a few part time jobs, one of which is working with at-risk teenagers. She intends to continue her studies in January at Centenary College where she’ll pursue a Bachelor of Social Work. She wants to work helping young adults. Anderson is also a member of PTK.

Graduate Kelly Ericson will present the speakers. The Flemington resident will receive her Associates degree in Liberal Arts. She is a PTK member and a student ambassador. She intends to transfer to Rutgers in January where she plans to major in English. She hopes to teach a community college one day.
