When students start college they do not know the rules and regulations, according to RVCC Safety and Facilities Manager Reinhold Woykowski. So instead of towing illegally parked cars as soon as school opens, Woykowski gives them a little time to learn the rules.
Time’s up.
“One month is an adequate amount of time to adjust,” he said.
Unless it’s an emergency, Woykowski said, RVCC issues parking warnings instead of tickets or towing cars when the semester starts. After a month cars are towed if they block the roadway or prevents the flow of traffic for emergency vehicles.
“We use Delucas Towing because they are closer and are sensitive to the students” said Woykowski. They may be sensitive, but the cost to get back a towed car from Delucas is not cheap. It’s “approximately” $125, said Woykowski.
This semester over a dozen cars have been towed from RVCC for illegal parking.
“If the student arrives at the car before the car is hooked up, the tow driver will release the car to the student,” said Woykowski. “If the car is hooked up and in motion – it goes.”
