You’ve just finished a big lunch. As you walk to your 1:30 class, a familiar feeling hits: you have to use the bathroom. If you’re in this situation during October and November, you should know that four RVCC bathrooms will be closed for renovations.
According to Brian O’Rourke, Director of the Facilities and Grounds, there were no complaints made about the conditions of the bathroom, but rather “a sense that renovations should be done before they got to that point.”
Women’s bathrooms on the first floors of Hunterdon and Somerset, and the Men’s and Women’s rooms on the second floor of College Center will get facelifts.
All of the floors and walls will get new tiles. The sinks and hand dryers will be hands-free, reducing the chance of exposure to germs. The plans also include new light fixtures and new countertops and sinks.
O’Rourke said the renovations will take about six weeks. Meanwhile, signs will direct people to the nearest open bathroom.
The budget for the work is $140,000. It may seem like a lot, but O’Rourke said several contractors bid on the job and the $140,000 was the smallest bid. Think about that as you map a route to an open bathroom ahead of Thanksgiving.
