Students Will Find 211 New Places to Park in the Fall |

As graduation approaches, work to expand parking on campus is nearly complete. Workers have added 61 spaces to the lot in front of West and paved Lot 3, just west of West, on May 8. That lot will be painted with about 150 spaces. John Trojan, the Vice President of Finance and Facilities at RVCC said, “We are building for the future.” In 2003, RVCC had a campus master plan which included expanded parking. Until last semester, Trojan thought the school had sufficient parking spaces. The jump in enrollment that began in 2006 proved that was wrong. “I always thought there were spaces in lot five, but no one ever wants to walk over from there,” Trojan said.
The
push to build the new lot and add spaces to the West lot actually reduced
available parking during the spring and workers have been busy to complete
the job as quickly as possible. “We spend about 40 hours a week here,” said
construction worker Christian Silva. His coworker Franco Yaenaro said the
additional spaces would prevent further parking problems, but school
officials won't know that for sure until students return in the fall. |
