Annual Spring Picnic Brings Campus Together

On April 29 RVCC Student Annual Picnic was held in the courtyard. Students enjoyed food, activities, and live music despite the cloudy and windy weather. The student picnic is a way for students, and professors to come together and have fun on campus.

“Free food brings people together,” student Ashley Layton said, “I have seen people that I haven’t seen in forever.” Her friend Jessica Crespo said, “I’ve been here for four semesters and this is the first time I’m able to attend. I was either too busy or I had no idea about it.” Second year student Crespo found out about the picnic when she was on her way to the cafeteria, and began to tell her friends. Her friend Kat Slavic was actually in line in the cafeteria when Crespo called her. Slavic then met her two friends at the courtyard where food was being served “The food is good.” Slavic said. “ My banana was squishy,” she laughs “but hey, it’s free.”

Aside from the eating, students took part in small activities such as: papermaking, a body composition screening which offered a massage, persona cards and caricatures. Erin Shelly said, “I’m excited about my massage, it’s great that there is a free massage booth.”

Student Clubs and organizations such as the U.S Army and radio station 94.5 PST took advantage of this day to promote themselves.  Jaclyn Klausner and Ryan Sitoy, college graduates who work for 94.5 PST gave out bumper stickers, shirts, key chains, and cups .“We’re on a college tour in New Jersey, visiting seven different colleges promoting our radio station.” Klausner said. “College students are a large part of our audience.”

Jerome John, a student representative for Club Unity, also took advantage of the large gathering of students to pass out fliers promoting an event on May 16th, to benefit the Offie R. Dennis Scholarship Fund. Other clubs representing and recruiting members were Amnesty International, Math Club, R.E.A.L., Social Justice Club, Anthropology, Literary Club, International Club, and Campus Crusade for life.
