RVCC NAMES SR. VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Dr. Dehlly Porras has been named Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in North Branch.
The Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the College and has direct responsibility for faculty, curriculum, instruction and assessment of all credit programs. The senior vice president also assumes leadership of the College in the President?s absence.
Dr. Porras replaces Dr. Constance Mierendorf, who left in May to become president of Sussex County Community College. Dr. Porras will assume her new responsibilities at RVCC on May 1, at an annual salary of $130,000.
?Dr. Porras brings to Raritan Valley Community College an impressive array of credentials as a college administrator and educator. Her many years of experience, particularly in the community college sector, will make her an invaluable addition to the RVCC community,? said RVCC President Dr. Casey Crabill.
Dr. Porras has 28 years of academic leadership experience and currently serves as Instructional Dean at Montgomery College in Maryland. She also has held leadership positions at the State University of New York ? Hudson Valley Community College, serving as Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, as well as Dean of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Health Sciences. Dr. Porras held several positions at the City University of New York ? LaGuardia Community College, including Director of the International Studies Program, Project Director for NY State Vocational Educational Grants in the Mathematics Department, and Director of Interdisciplinary Mathematics Projects. She has 22 years of teaching experience in a community college setting and obtained tenured full professorship at City University of New York.
Dr. Porras received a Doctorate in Mathematics Education from Columbia University: Teacher?s College; a Master of Arts in Mathematics from The College of New Jersey; and a Bachelor in Mathematics and Statistics from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogot?, Colombia.
Her professional affiliations include memberships in the American Association of University Women and the Latin American Committee on Mathematics Education.
