RVCC TO PRESENT FACULTY-STUDENT DANCE CONCERT FEATURING WORK BY NJ ARTIST CLAIRE PORTER
The Visual and Performing Arts department at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) will present the Faculty-Student Dance Concert, Wednesday and Thursday, December 5 and 6, at 8 p.m. The event will be held in the Nash Theatre at the College?s North Branch Campus. The concert is coordinated by Loretta Di Bianca Fois of Branchburg, the head of RVCC?s dance program.
The concert is the culmination of the semester?s work in the Modern Dance, Ballet, Jazz and Choreography classes offered at Raritan Valley Community College, with over 100 students performing in original dances choreographed by both RVCC faculty and students. The concert features students from beginning levels to semi-professional and will include a variety of dance styles, including ballet, modern and jazz. Musical accompaniment will range from classical to country.
The concert features choreography by guest artist Claire Porter of Teaneck. Elizabeth Zimmer of The Village Voice has called the award-winning choreographer ?a master at combining words and movement,? and Dance Magazine refers to her pieces as ?exquisitely crafted yet accessible little gems.?
In addition, RVCC faculty member Jane Setteducato of Stewartsville will perform her new work, ?Listen, pause, replay...,? with a small group of RVCC students. ?Listen? explores interrupted conversations, half-expressed thoughts and unfulfilled needs. Working with spoken word and Bach solo cello suites, the dancers present a variety of movements. Setteducato has performed throughout Europe and with Meredith Monk and Elisabeth Streb, and Ringside, among others. She has an MFA in Choreography from Bennington College and a BA in Dance from Adelphi University.
