BOARD OF SCHOOL ESTIMATE APPROVES RVCC?S BUDGET

On Wednesday, March 25, the Board of School Estimate voted unanimously to approve a $46.7 million operating budget for Fiscal Year 2010 for Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in North Branch.

The Board also approved RVCC's request for a $3.2 million major capital budget and an $850,000 minor capital budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

?We understand the difficult economic situation that Somerset and Hunterdon Counties are experiencing, and we appreciate the freeholders? continuous support and dedication to Raritan Valley Community College,? said RVCC President Dr. Casey Crabill. ?At the Counties? request, the College has prepared a budget that calls for an overall five percent reduction in operating expenses. We have worked hard to reduce costs in ways that will not directly impact student services. This includes instituting a hiring freeze and saving money in such areas as energy and service contracts,? Dr. Crabill continued.

The Board of School Estimate is a six-member board composed of freeholders from Somerset and Hunterdon counties, as well as RVCC trustees, and is responsible for approving the College?s budget.

The operating budget calls for tuition to rise from $91 to $96 per credit beginning in the Fall 2009 Semester. However, with a new adjustment in fees, the net increase will be $3 per credit assessed. Students who do not live or work in Somerset or Hunterdon County will be charged an extra $10 per credit.

The Board of School Estimate is composed of Hunterdon Freeholder Director William Mennen, Hunterdon County Freeholder Member Ronald Sworen, Somerset County Freeholder Member Peter Palmer, Somerset County Freeholder Member Robert Zaborowski, RVCC Board of Trustees Member Raymond Bateman and RVCC Board of Trustees Member Robert Wise.

RVCC, located on Route 28 and Lamington Road in North Branch, NJ, and serving Somerset and Hunterdon County residents for 40 years, offers more than 90 associate degrees and certificates. For further information, visit www.raritanval.edu .
