CAPITOL STEPS TO PERFORM AT RVCC THEATRE
The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in North Branch will kick off its 17th annual Merck Series with a performance by the always outrageous Capitol Steps, Saturday, October 11, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $31 and $36.
The Theatre first presented the Capitol Steps with its Indecision 2000 tour, and local audiences have been laughing ever since. Looking for humor as the November election approaches? This is where and when you?ll find it.
The Capitol Steps was created by several Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. Although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.
Since it began, the Capitol Steps has recorded 28 albums, including its latest, Campaign and Suffering . The group has been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS, and can be heard four times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.
For the fifth year in a row, Courier News readers voted The Theatre at RVCC as the ?Best of the Best? in 2008 in the ?Playhouse/Theater? category.
The Theatre will present this season the Major Artists Series ; the 17th annual Merck Series , made possible by a generous grant from The Merck Company Foundation; School-Time Performances , a series for teachers and students grades pre-K to 12; the Family Series , a series of events designed specially for families with older children; and the Sampler Series , a series of transformational events for children and their families. The 2008-2009 season also will offer a new series, Tuesdays with Stories , which features great American literature performed by solo actors from The American Place Theatre.
