LEAVE OF ABSENCE PROCEDURES

New hires and employees with less than one year of service by July 1st

Absences due to illness will be charged to accrued sick time.  Sick days should be recorded in the Lion’s Den under your normal employee time reporting procedures. If accrued sick time is exhausted and you are unable to work a claim for short-term disability benefits can be submitted.  The claim form can be obtained from Human Resources and requires a statement and authorization for release of information by the employee, attending physician, as well as wage information provided by RVCC. 

Full-time Faculty Members

Absences due to illness will be charged to accrued sick time. Sick days are recorded in the Lion’s Den under your normal time reporting procedures. If accrued sick time is exhausted and you are unable to work, a faculty member who has contributed at least two days in the prior fiscal year may present a claim to Human Resources for sick leave time from the sick bank after all personal sick leave days have been exhausted.  Medical certification will be required. Approved claims for sick leave bank time will be paid through payroll based upon the faculty member’s years of service.

Full-time Administrators

Absences due to illness will be charged to accrued sick time. Sick days are recorded in the Lion’s Den under your normal time reporting procedures.  An eligible administrator may present a claim to Human Resources for additional sick leave from the bank after all accrued sick and vacation leave time is exhausted. Medical certification will be required.  

Full-time Classified Staff

Absences due to illness will be charged to accrued sick time.  Sick days should be recorded in the Lion’s Den under your normal employee time reporting procedures. If accrued sick time is exhausted and you are unable to work a claim for short-term disability benefits can be submitted.  The claim form requires a statement and authorization for release of information by the employee, attending physician, as well as wage information provided by RVCC.

BEREAVEMENT

Classified Staff: Employees are entitled up to five (5) days of bereavement leave in the event of death in the immediate family (mother, father, wife, husband,sister, brother, son, daughter, grandparent, grandchildren, in-laws) or other member of the family living in the same household.

One (1) additional day per year may be used in the event of the death of a friend or member of family other than immediate family.

Administrative Staff: Five (5)days of bereavement leave shall be granted to Administrators in the event of death in the immediate family (mother, father, wife,husband, sister, brother, son, daughter, in-laws) or other member of the family living in the same household.

Should more than one member of the immediate household or family die with the same year, five (5) days bereavement shall be granted for each death.

PERSONAL LEAVE

Staff are required to complete one full year of service before being eligible for personal time. Administrators are eligible immediately.
Three personal days per fiscal year are granted to attend to matters which cannot be cared for on free time and which would result in legal, business, or family disadvantage if not attended to during working hours. Personal leave is not cumulative.


SICK DAY ACCRUAL
 Sick days are accrued at a rate of one day per month.
