Life Science Career Awareness Day

On March 20, 2009, Raritan Valley Community College, in partnership with local life science companies and area high schools, presented its sixth annual Life Science Career Awareness Day.  The program was sponsored by the HealthCare Institute of New Jersey (HINJ) to help develop a future workforce for biotech companies by exposing high school students to the array of careers available in the health care industry.

Nearly 200 students began the day with an introductory program at RVCC, followed by field trips to nearby life science companies.  Students toured company facilities, viewed demonstrations, participated in activities, and enjoyed a luncheon and conversation with industry representatives.

The day concluded with a discussion of the day's event with Raritan Valley Community College science faculty.

Health Care Careers '09:  Sharpen Your Focus

Raritan Valley Community College hosted over 100 high school students on April 1, 2009 for a day filled with hands-on activities designed to highlight health care careers.

Students spent the day at RVCC, rotating through activity stations which included nursing, health information technology/medical coding, allied health careers, athletic training, and ophthalmic science.  Representatives from Somerset Medical Center’s EMT/Paramedic staff also provided hands-on activities throughout the day.

Participating students took an on-line career planning assessment prior to the event, and concluded the program with an exploration activity designed to analyze individual assessment results.
