Fast Track to CPS/CAP
Prepare to earn the IAAP Certified Professional Secretary® (CPS®) rating or Certified Administrative Professional® (CAP®) rating by participating in the RVCC Certification Review Programs. Certification Review Programs are available through RVCC’s Corporate & Continuing Division (CCE), with a mid-April start-up for the November exam and an early November start-up for the May exam.
Interested in the possibility of attaining college credits after you become certified? Information is found in the American Council on Education College Credit Recommendations for the CPS &CAP for those testing under the new exam blueprint effective 2004. Interested in learning more about academic credits/degrees and non-credit/professional development CEUs, click on The ABCs of Academia/Facts about CEUs.
Once you attain the CPS/CAP and to remain current in your profession and maintain professional competency throughout your career, every five years you are required by IAAP to update your credentials through the recertification process. The process is not difficult and the sample worksheet will help you document your professional development activities.
According to Julia West-Johnson, Associate Dean of Corporate & Continuing Education at Raritan Valley Community College and Certification Review Program Administrator, “We can count over 450 office professionals who have taken our CCE RVCC Review Programs. They attest to the fact that they not only learned valuable information that helped them pass the test, but that they honed their critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities, and decision-making skills. They also benefited from working side-by-side with other administrative professionals within their organizations, often establishing networks that were not present before the exam. The bonding that takes place is noteworthy, and the self-esteem that comes from attaining the credential is noted by all who hold the credential.”
