 This basic ESL class is a low level course intended for students with low abilities in English. The course designed to
improve speaking and reading and writing skills in English. Textbook will be provided for this course. 


The courses below are offered as beginning, non-academic ESL classes. For these basic courses, students do not have to take a placement test at the RVCC Main Campus Testing Center in Branchburg.  You need only register for the course of your choice.

-ESL LEVEL I-Part A   -Introduction to English Language Studies is the first in a two-part program (A&B) series of ESL courses designed to prepare students with limited experience for further studies of the English language at the college level. Grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught as integrated skills of equal importance. Basic pronunciation and vocabulary are introduced. Students study basic grammar structures and learn to write basic sentences and simple narrative paragraphs. Computer software technology and internet assignments are required for this course.

-ESL LEVEL I-Part B    -
Continuation of Level 1- Part A Students increase grammar awareness with simple past, past continuous and future tenses and irregular verbs. Students begin to become familiar with writing longer sentences and using broader vocabulary. Essay writing and speaking styles are regular classroom activities. 

-ESL LEVEL II-Part A   -Introduction to English Language Studies Level II is the next level of ESL courses designed to prepare students with limited experience for further study of the English language at the college level. Grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught as integrated skills of equal importance. Basic pronunciation and vocabulary are expanded. Students continue study of basic grammar structures; write simple narrative and non-narrative descriptive paragraphs. Computer software technology and internet assignments are required for this course. 

-ESL LEVEL II-Part B  -This course is a continuation of Level II-A. Students continue to study proper nouns, capitalizing, punctuation and proper writing conventions. Prerequisite Level II-A or equivalent proficiency. English conversation is encouraged in this course. Textbook are included.
