What makes
the College for Working Adults unique?
Unlike traditional 15-week college semesters, the College for Working
Adults offers accelerated 10 week blocks of instruction. Each block involves
9 – 10 credits of study, combining both classroom and online instruction.
The blocks are offered three times every year. Students take three courses
in the Fall semester (September – early December), three courses
in an early Spring semester (late January – early April) and three
more courses in a late Spring semester (April – June). Adult students
can earn an Associate Degree in only two and a half years.
How
can a busy adult complete three courses in 10 weeks?
The three courses within one 10 week block are taught with adult students
in mind. Students will have one course that meets every Friday night on
campus and another course that meets every other Saturday morning supplemented
by on-line instruction. The third course will be taught totally online.
What
makes the College for Working Adults so successful?
Students form a learning community of like minded adults who help and
support each other through the program. Personalized attention and academic
support that adult students need to succeed are offered by caring faculty
and staff. Faculty teaching within each block work together to offer integrated
instruction.
What support services are available to students
in this program?
An advisor who understands the unique needs of adult students will advise
students in the program on academic and transfer issues. Tutoring
and other support services are available online or in person.
Can
my prior college credits be applied to this program?
Credits for courses previously taken at RVCC or at another accredited
college or university can be substituted for required courses in the program,
if they are equivalent.
