With 30 years of experience in the
field, Ellen has worked in a variety of hospitals in Florida, New York
and New Jersey as the Assistant Director or the Director of the Health
Information Management Department. These facilities ranged from small
to very large, government run to private not-for-profit. Her first year
out of college, she was employed by the Center for Disease Control
working on the "SENIC Project", gathering data for a comprehensive
project on Nosocomial Infection Control. This position allowed her to
travel all over the U.S. visiting many hospitals during that time
period. From there, she started the traditional HIM career working as
the Assistant Director, Medical Records in a hospital in Florida. She
came to RVCC 29 years later for something different in her field,
because unfortunately, her last hospital was in the process of closing.
She hopes to give back to the students the enthusiam for the profession
that still interests her today. Today's health care system is in great
need of professionals at all levels in this exciting field.
