Course

Description:   Management is the process (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the use of resources) of working with and through others to accomplish performance goals.  This course will help you (the students) develop the capacity to think and act like managers.  We will explore the theories, techniques, and insights from the behavioral sciences and their relevance to each of the major areas of management.  You will develop your ability to apply theory to real life situations through case studies.  Through a practical approach to the field we will cover the aspects of job leadership and effective human relations, including procedures for dealing with interpersonal relationships, quality work life, conflict management, organization development, and others necessary for success in management.

Course

Objectives:    At the end of the course you (the student) will be able to:

·         understand why managers are necessary, and why management is a challenge.

·         explain the importance of delegation and describe the relationship between authority, responsibility, and accountability.

·         analyze the leadership function.

·         discuss and show a thorough understanding of human resource planning, the informal organization,  how managers measure and compare performance.

You will be required to develop the ability to verbally support your positions, effectively present information and concepts and show mastery of the subject matter.

 

Course

Requirements:          Read all assigned material before its in class discussion.  Submit written assignments on the date due.  Attend and participate in class.

 

Grades:                      Grades will be determined by performance on exams and quizzes (75%), class participation (25%)
