This course is designed to introduce students to microcomputer and various application software associated with Microsoft Office XP with Word 2007, Excel 2007, Access 2007, and PowerPoint 2007. Topics to be discussed include use of the computer and the hardware components of a computer system. Students will receive hands-on experience with word processing, computer graphics, spreadsheets, database management, presentation graphics, disk operating system and the basic use of the Internet.

For full-credit, follow the "file naming conventions carefully" for all files e-mailed to me or handed on flash drives.

1) Project assignments will be email to apieris@raritanval.edu. Name the file with your last name and page number. Ex: Pieris_pg_78.

2) 25% penalty for files not renamed exactly as above.

The following rules will be strictly imposed during Quizzes / Exams

Cheating of any format is not allowed.  All parties involved in cheating will be dealt with according to the school’s policy on cheating.

1) Do not talk, whisper to anybody or to yourself. Anything you say including "hello" or "good bye" is also considered cheating.

2) After end of each quiz (Word, Excel, Access & PP), e-mail me your work. Make sure I've received it before leaving the class room.

4) No one will be allowed to share textbooks during exams. Every student is responsible for making sure they have a textbook during exams.

Other course rules:

1) No electronic devices such as cell phones or mp3 players are not permitted in class. Cell phones must be turned off in class.

2) Homework files must be placed in separate folders. The folders must be renamed with your last name, zipped and e-mailed to me. If the files are e-mailed without being zipped, you will get a zero. Keep the reference of your e-mail in the "Sent Items" as proof that you did e-mailed me.

3) When submitting your work, 25% penalty will be applied per each late class beyond the due date.

4) All quizzes must be e-mailed to me.

5) 5) If you miss more than six classes without prior approval, I will drop you from this class (college policy). Any time you miss a class or leave class early (before 12 pm), I will deduct points from your grade.

6) You must be in for five of the seven exams (09/29, 10/15, 11/19, 12/10 & 12/15).  If you miss any of these five exams without a valid reason such as sickness or death in immediate family, a make up exam will be given with a penalty of 20%.  A make-up exam/s may be given in the form of a closed book "short answer/mcq" exam.

7) Regardless of the reason, no make up exams are given if you miss Word Exam I and/or Excel Exam I. If you miss Word Exam 1 (10/06), the Word Exam II will weigh 15% and/or if you miss Excel Exam I (11/03),  the Excel Exam II will weigh 15%.

8) Do not print any material to hand in to me through out the course. Generally avoid print anything unless you absolutely have a need.

9) All work must be completed by 12/15/08.

10) All exams in this course are scheduled as above. Do not follow the official college exam schedule. If there is a conflict with another exam, let me know at least one week in advance.

11) Note: Any portion of the above schedule can change due to any number of reasons. You are responsible for viewing this web site on a daily basis to track announcements/changes.
