Purpose: This course instructs the student in the use of both local and global networks. It provides hands-on experience to develop skills necessary to retrieve information from Internet and other electronic catalogs. Students also acquire the skills needed to retrieve software from the Internet.

The following topics are studied: e-mail (pine), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Telnet, UNIX commands, Gopher, Veronica, Archie, World Wide Web (WWW), Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Explorer 4.0, and Lynx. Additional topics include: News Groups, Internet Relay Chat (IRC), Internet Security, Privacy, Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Students also learn to design and publish their own home pages.
