Safety Committee Minutes
12/06/07 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Room C-207
Attendees: Aldacoik, M., Estreicher, J., Ford, Dale, Liebmann, Eileen, Markewicz, Todd, Pickerell, Darlene, Saam, Janice, Thomas, Brian, Wykowski, Reinhold
Fire Alarm Box Covers will be placed on all boxes in all buildings. This is expensive but appears to be necessary. The test of the alarm sounding within a specific building can now be done by Security from their Office area. This will allow for testing the alarm in a confined building without the alarm automatically notifying the Branchburg Response Team, or disrupting the entire campus. Current crisis control requires a security guard be sent immediately to the Child Care Center when the alarm sounds. Installation of a strobe type piercing sound emergency alarm will be installed on the premises to provide maximum notification to students and staff on campus that there is an on-campus emergency in progress. Friday, December 07, 2007 the president will have a meeting of the fifty persons assigned to be Fire Marshals. Crisis planning will include the police presents currently on campus. West building floor plans are being looked at by an architect firm for reproduction of fire exit plans for each room.
Vendor Information:
The cost of a Public Address System is
being evaluated.
ConnectEd: A vendor ConnectEd currently contracted to at least two
NJ university campuses, Monmouth and Princeton, provides the service for
managing the cell phone emergency notification during an on campus crisis. Their
service also uses text message instructions to staff and students to be followed
during the crisis. This will allow crowd control of those who exited and are
waiting instructions as to what to do next. The vendor is located off-premise,
an advantage in case the on-campus offices or buildings are inaccessible.
Cameras: Feasibility study is on going for installation of cameras on
campus in critical areas, stairwells, hallways, etc. This would include updating
roof cameras.
Access Ladder Science Building is being looked at for installation of an
outside access ladder to the roof to eliminate the current route of passing
through the chemical storage area to access the ladder which leads to an exit
onto the roof. Smoke Detectors Vendors will be asked the price of
replacing heat detectors with smoke detectors in all rooms.
Science Building Homeland Security now requires a report on bomb component chemicals stored on campus. All chemicals must be labeled. Removal of non-labeled chemicals is costly and time consuming. Lab technicians must maintain a sign-out log procedure for chemicals. Controls for chemical waste materials must always be in place. Right to Know Training is on going for staff. HazMat must be called in to deactivate chemicals. All doors must be locked when exiting the building.
Employee Identification
System is in committee at this time. There is no timeline assigned for
completion of the goal to identify a system.
Door Locking During a campus emergency, over 100 doors on campus require
locking, all manually by the Security guards. This mission requires the
attention of several security guards during a given campus crisis.
Theft on campus: A reported stolen brief case from the Optical Lab was
returned basically intact with minor items missing. Please lock doors.
Panic Buttons are already installed in Enrollment Services and Finance.
If deemed necessary, other areas could have panic buttons installed.
