High School Equivalency

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the RVCC Testing Center is unable to schedule any High School Equivalency Exam testing. Some stand-alone testing centers within the state may be open and serving the community.

If you’re an adult who does not have a high school diploma, you’re not alone. You’re one of approximately one million adult New Jerseyans. Raritan Valley Community College wants to assist you in preparing for and earning a high school diploma.

Preparing for the Exam

The College offers special classes to help you prepare for the high school equivalency exam, formerly called GED. The course includes a study skills review and comprehensive instruction in all the subject areas needed to pass the test. Practice exams, pre-testing and post-testing evaluations are provided. The course is offered in the evenings and the fee is $240.

Taking the Exam

Raritan Valley Community College is an approved testing center. The State of New Jersey offers several tests for people to earn a state-issued high school diploma. The RVCC Testing Center offers the computer-based DRC/CBT Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC). The test is available in English or Spanish. The fee for taking the test is $104.

Exam Dates

Unfortunately, at this time, the RVCC Testing Center is unable to schedule any High School Equivalency testing.
There may be some stand-alone testing centers within the state that are open and serving the community.

If you are taking the test for the first time you must come both days. Arrive at the Testing Center (Lower Level, Library Building) at 8:30 am. The testing fee is $106 and must be paid by money order payable to RVC College.

If you have taken the test before and want to retest, you must call the Testing Center to find out what day to test. If you have previously taken the TASC, you may retest each section up to two times without paying for the test. However you must pay a $10 administrative fee for each test.

Registering for the Exam

To register for the TASC exam, you must have an email address and the identification you will be using to take the test. Applicants are required to provide 2 or more forms of identification to demonstrate identity and residence. For an updated list of acceptable ID, please click here.

Follow these steps to register for the exam:

Go to https://newjersey.tasctest.com
Click on Create New Account and I have never registered. (If retesting, select I Registered at a Test Center)
Enter your email address
Create a password – make sure it is one that you will remember – write it down
Proceed with entering the information required
Click on Create Account

Calling for an Exam Appointment

An appointment is required for testing. To make an appointment, call 908-526-1200 x8422 between 9am and 4pm, Monday through Friday. Make sure to have your two forms of identification available when you make the call.

High School Equivalency Exam Transcripts
