For those of you who have not yet “friended” RVCC on Facebook, I wanted to make sure that you saw my note regarding re-opening.

I hope each of you is continuing to recover from the storm.  I am pleased to report that the college has power, all computer systems have been restored, and the heat is starting to make the campus a cozy place to be.  We will open with a regular Thursday schedule tomorrow, November 8.  All are welcome to come and warm up or charge a phone or laptop, even if you don’t have a class scheduled.  We also know there is another storm on the way; we are watching it closely but at this time don’t expect it to impact tomorrow’s opening.  If there is a need to change the schedule, RVCC will make an announcement through its emergency communication system by 5 a.m. tomorrow. You may want to dress warmly tomorrow in case some areas of the Colelge are still in the process of warming up.

The pool is currently closed, but we expect it to be functional again next week.  The cafeteria is gearing up for the return of students, faculty, and staff, but may have a more limited than usual set of offerings tomorrow and Friday.

While RVCC is returning to a normal state of operations, we know that some of you may still have ongoing challenges.  The Counseling Office (C165) will have information about area services that might be able to help.  I urge you to stop in and see what support we can help you identify for the issues at hand.

Faculty will be able to let their students know how each class will complete the work necessary to finish the semester.  For students who expect to transfer in January 2013 and are concerned about receiving a timely final transcript, please see Diane Lemcoe, Dean of Students, so that we can ensure priority attention.

On a larger note, communities grow as they face challenges together.  RVCC is a strong learning community dedicated to the success of each student.  We are here to help you get through the unusual challenges this semester has provided.  Please let us know if there is a way we can assist you.
