RVCC OFFERING AA IN ENGLISH

Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in North Branch is now offering an Associate of Arts degree in English. Previously students interested in studying English received AA degrees in Liberal Arts at RVCC.

The program, which started with the Spring 2004 Semester, is designed for students interested in focusing on literature and writing in an interrelated academic environment. It features a broad range of courses in English language, literature and composition, including introduction to literature and literary theory, linguistics, survey courses, genre courses, diversity-based and interdisciplinary courses, and writing-intensive courses.

“The new degree program recognizes the growing student interest in majoring in English. In addition, the English Department recognizes the relevance of the advanced study of language and literature and effective communication skills in an increasingly complex and interrelated academic environment,” said Dr. G. Jeremiah Ryan, president of RVCC. “The new program will enable interested students to begin their major in English at RVCC and to transfer to a four-year institution to continue their academic advancement on the baccalaureate level,” Dr. Ryan continued.

RVCC’s Spring Semester classes started on Monday, January 26.
