RVCC HONOR SOCIETY WINS AWARDS

Raritan Valley Community College’s Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), earned the Five-Star award for the seventh consecutive year at the 20th annual Middle States Regional Convention, held March 2-4 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The Five-Star award is given to chapters that excel in the categories of Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship and Service.

Stephanie Poynter, Chapter treasurer, was selected to the Chapter Officer Hall of Honor. Mary Racel Lawas, co-president during the Fall 2006 semester, was selected to the Chapter President Hall of Honor, and Jacqueline Tangtrakul was selected to the Chapter Member Hall of Honor and named a Distinguished Chapter Member.

In addition to the Five-Star award, the chapter received the following awards: Chapter Champions; Platinum and Silver Pinnacle Awards; and Chapter Achievement Award (one of three awarded).

RVCC’s Computer Science Assistant Professor Steven Schwarz, Chapter Advisor since 2003, received the Paragon Award for Advisors.

The Middle States Region consists of 76 community colleges throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. The Alpha Epsilon Pi Chapter will continue to compete in the International Convention to be held in Nashville in April.

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society whose members excel in both academics and community service. In addition to Schwarz, the RVCC chapter is advised by Professor of English Angela Bodino, EOF Director Maria Sanchez, Business Assistant Professor Bill Black and Business Instructor Pattiann Kletz.
