I’m
getting ready to transfer to a four-year institution. What should I
do?
There
are several options:
Will
the transfer school take my credits?
Students
should refer to the four-year institution for specific answers regarding
how RVCC credits will be accepted to the receiving institution.
RVCC
credits have transferred to hundreds of schools around the country,
as our academic programs are fully accredited.
What
services does the college provide for students to assist in transferring?
Advising
and Counseling Services sponsors "Transfer Days" where dozens
of four-year schools come to our campus to meet with RVCC students.
In addition, schools attend "Instant Decision Days", where
students will find out that day if they are accepted to that four-year
institution.
Also,
Advising and Counseling Services houses hundreds of catalogs for colleges
around the nation for students to review. In addition, the transfer
library holds college guides, reference books, and computers for internet
searches—all available to our students for free!
Transfer
Counselors are available to work with students on an appointment-only
basis for in-depth transfer questions, and drop-in counseling is available
for quick questions. For an appointment with a Transfer Counselor
please call (908) 218-8860.
I have attended other colleges
in the past. Can I transfer credit to RVCC?
After
applying to RVCC, you will need to have official copies of all college
transcripts sent to the office of Enrollment Services, here at
RVCC. Many schools have a fee for this service, therefore you
should contact
the college directly to check procedures.
If you attended other colleges under a different name, be sure to indicate
the name change with the office of Enrollment Services.
Who
evaluates transfer credit?
The office of Enrollment Services,
only AFTER official transcripts have been received from previous academic
institutions AND the student has enrolled in a degree program. Students
who have unofficial copies of their transcripts are encouraged to
come to the Advising and Counseling center where an unofficial
credit evaluation will be done to facilitate the registration process.
How many credits
can I transfer to RVCC?
Students can earn up to 45 credits in ANY form of
advanced standing (transfer credit, CLEP, etc)
I attended college more
than 10 years ago. Are my credits too old to transfer?
No. There are no age restrictions on
Liberal Arts credits. Courses taken in other academic areas
will be evaluated by the appropriate department.
Do I have to be enrolled
in a program to receive transfer credit?
Yes.
Otherwise, the office of Enrollment Services would have no curriculum
requirements within which to grant credit.
I have college
credit from a foreign university. Are those credits transferable?
Possibly.
Students with foreign academic credit need to pick up the World Educational
Services form (available in Enrollment Services and Advising and Counseling
Services). The WES
grants United States equivalencies to foreign credits. Credential
Evaluation Services
Students fill out the form and forward
it, along with the transcripts, to that service, citing RVCC as a
recipient of the evaluation. The fee schedule is attached to the form.
A copy of that evaluation will also be
sent to the student. When RVCC receives those transcripts, an evaluation
of the credits will be performed and students will receive notification
from the Office of Enrollment Services as to the results.
