It’s Not Too Late to Register for Fall Classes - Special Accelerated Classes Start in October

RVCC is offering special 10-week and 7-week courses that start in October. Courses are being offered in business, communications, English as a Second Language, English, history, psychology, sociology and more.

High school juniors and seniors can take advantage of this opportunity to jump start their college education. Students enrolled in RVCC’s Early Credits program pay only $150 for the first course.

Workshop on Choosing a College Major

Area high school students interested in exploring college majors may attend the Fall 2007 Majors’ Fair Wednesday, October 3, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in the RVCC Conference Center at the College’s North Branch Campus.

Participants can meet with representatives from RVCC academic departments to discuss potential majors, requirements and career opportunities.  Learn more about where your future major can take you.

Learning Through Experience Workshops

RVCC’s Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and The Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties invite high school students and educators to the annual Learning Through Experience workshops, November 5, from 9-11:30 a.m., in the RVCC Theatre at the College’s North Branch Campus.

This year’s theme: “Second Generation, Accepting the Legacy”

Margit Feldman, Holocaust survivor and author of Margit, A Teenager’s Journey through the Holocaust and Beyond

RVCC News

 

West Building Open for Classes

RVCC’s new West Building is now open for classes. The 44,500 square-foot structure is the largest classroom building on campus. It’s located next to the Theatre.

The facility contains 18 classrooms and a multimedia laboratory. Ten of the classrooms are equipped with the latest technology to provide computer-intensive training. The other eight classrooms, which are also equipped with advanced technology, are designed to serve a variety of instructional uses.

The Computer Science Department’s faculty offices are located in the building, which has close to 400 computers. Most of the department’s classes are being taught there as well. Other features include an information systems help desk and a conference room.  A student lounge is located on the top floor of the three-story structure.


RVCC Now a “Smoke-Free” Campus

RVCC is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment for all. To further this effort, RVCC is now a smoke-free campus. No smoking is permitted in anyCollege buildings or anywhere on College grounds. The new policy is a result of an initiative that involved members of the entire College community, including staff, faculty and students.

New Degree in

Beginning this semester, RVCC is offering an Associate of Science (AS) Degree in Web Developer. The program presents students with the various aspects of web development and gives them both an academic and professional perspective. Students learn the theoretical principles of web page and web site development, providing them with a conceptual foundation as they employ the standard industry tools. The program also prepares students for careers as web page designers, web developers and web analysts.

RVCC Appoints Men’s Soccer Coach

Evan Brosniak, who was named “Coach of the Year” in 2004 by the Courier News, has been named Men’s Soccer Head Coach at RVCC. Brosniak takes over the RVCC program after a six-year stint with Bound Brook High School, where he guided the Men’s Varsity Soccer Team to the Central New Jersey Group 1 State Championship, the first-ever in Bound Brook’s history.

Soccer is just one of six intercollegiate sportsavailable at RVCC. The College also offers teams in Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s Baseball, Women’s Softball and Golf (Co-ed). RVCC also offers a variety of intramural programs in various sports.

RVCC Theatre Seeks Student Technicians

 

The Theatre at RVCC is looking for young people interested in learning about the technical side of theatre to work as student technicians. Training will be provided and no prior technical theatre knowledge is required. Students will be paid $8 per hour, on a per show basis. Interested students must be at least 16 years old to participate.

Professional Development Opportunities

Seminar on Resistance to Slavery

Area educators are invited to attend a seminar, Enough, No More! Resistance to Slavery and Oppression, sponsored by RVCC’s Paul Robeson Institute, Wednesday, October 24, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., in the Conference Center at the College’s North Branch Campus. Participants will receive six professional development hours.

Morning keynote address: historian/author Giles R. Wright, director of The African-American History Program of the New Jersey Historical Commission. Wright will examine the Underground Railroad and anti-slavery and colonization movements, focusing especially on New Jersey.

Afternoon keynote address: historian/author Dr. Lenworth Gunther, founder of The Gunther Group. Dr. Gunther will speak about the era following Reconstruction to the eve of the Civil Rights movement, focusing on methods of maintaining white supremacy and the African-American response.

The New Jersey Astronomy CEnter (NJACE) at RVCC offers a wide range of professional development opportunities, as well as in-service training, in earth science and astronomy for teachers of grades K-12. All workshops meet the New Jersey Science Standards and help teachers prepare their students for state testing in science.
