New Sr. Vice President Named

 

Dr. Dehlly Porras has been named Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at RVCC. In that position, she will serve as chief academic officer of the College and will have direct responsibility for faculty, curriculum, instruction and assessment of all credit programs.

 

Dr. Porras has 28 years of academic leadership experience and currently serves as Instructional Dean at Montgomery College in Maryland. She also has held leadership positions at the State University of New York – Hudson Valley Community College and the City University of New York – LaGuardia Community College.

RVCC Receives Award for Service

 

The Corporation for National and Community Service has honored RVCC with a Special Achievement Award as part of the second annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. RVCC was one of two community colleges nationwide that received the Special Achievement Award for its commitment to service. The award was given in recognition of the College’s Service Learning Disaster Sheltering Projects.

Accounting, Finance
Career Seminar Slated

 

RVCC’s Careers Services Department will sponsor an Accounting and Finance Career Seminar Thursday, March 20, from 6-8 p.m., in The Conference Center at the College’s North Branch Campus. The program is free of charge and open to the public. The event was originally scheduled for February 12 but was postponed due to inclement weather.

 

Participants will learn about a variety of careers in Accounting and Finance as they interact with professionals in roundtable sessions.

High school juniors and seniors can jump start their college education by taking courses at RVCC. Register now for the Summer 2008 sessions. Students enrolled in RVCC’s Early Credits program pay only $150 for the first course.

RVCC Sets
Student Art Exhibition

 

RVCC’s Visual and Performing Arts Department will present the annual RVCC Student Art Exhibition in two installments this year. Part I runs from March 24-April 10, in the Art Gallery at the College’s North Branch Campus.
 

 

 

   


 

An opening reception will be held Friday, March 28, from 6-8 p.m.

 

Part II of the exhibition will run from April 18-May 1.

Talk on Kennedy Space Center Set

 

The Planetarium at RVCC will present “Launching DAWN (and Phoenix): From Behind the Scenes at Kennedy Space Center Press Site,” Wednesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m.

 

 

The lecture, which is open to the public, will be given by Dr. Ken Kremer, a NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador and member of The Planetary Society.

The Theatre at RVCC offers a variety of performances appropriate for teens—from acrobatics and comedy to musical theatre and magic. Professional educators, with school ID, can receive a 50 percent educator discount on up to four tickets per show.
