The Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium in Branchburg will present a number of special programs for children in November, including opportunities to learn about the planets while kids are wearing their pajamas and holding their stuffed animals. Other offerings in November include laser concerts featuring rock music and tunes from movies, as well as astronomy shows. The following programs will be offered:

Perfect Little Planet, Saturday, November 3, 3 p.m.
A family from another star system is seeking the perfect vacation spot. Fly over the surface of Pluto, our best known dwarf planet; sail through the rings of Saturn; feel Jupiter’s lightning storms; and walk on the surface of Mars. Which destination will the family choose? (Recommended for ages 6-12)

Laser Magic, Saturday, November 3, 4 p.m.
Enjoy a laser concert featuring songs by a variety of artists including “We Are All Made of Stars” by Moby; “We Will Rock You” by Queen; “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors; and “Let It Go,” sung by Idina Menzel. (Recommended for ages 6-12)

Astronomy Tonight, Saturday, November 3, 7 p.m.
Using the Planetarium’s DigitalSky digital theater, experience a guided tour of the night sky. Learn about some of the popular constellations visible from sunset to sunrise, as well as the stories behind them. Hear about how and where in the sky to find the brightest planets. Weather permitting, the 3M Observatory will be open after the show. (Recommended for ages 8-adult)

Pink Floyd: The Wall laser concert, Saturdays, November 3 & 17, 8 p.m.
“Hey You,” are you on “The Thin Ice”? Don’t say “Goodbye Cruel World” as you break through “Another Brick in the Wall.” Enjoy these Pink Floyd songs and more in this popular laser concert. (Recommended for ages 10-adult)

Magic Tree House: Space Mission, Friday, November 9, 2 p.m.
Young star gazers join Magic Tree House characters Jack and Annie as they discover the secrets of the Sun, Moon, planets, space travel and more. Who can help them answer the questions posted by the mysterious “M”? The show is based on the same-titled, best-selling series of novels. (Recommended for ages 5 and older)

Laser Kids 2018, Friday, November 9, 3 p.m.; Saturday, November 10, 4 p.m.
An updated song list entertains kids and kids at heart while lasers “dance” on the dome overhead. Songs include “Try Everything” from the movie Zootopia, “YMCA” by the Village People, and “Everything is Awesome” from the Lego Movie. (Recommended for ages 6-12)

The Skies over Hogwarts, Friday, November 9, 7 & 8 p.m.; Saturday, November 10, 3 & 7 p.m.
Join the Planetarium’s witches and wizards as they guide you through a Harry Potter-themed tour of the night sky. Learn how J.K. Rowling used astronomy as the inspiration for some of her characters' names. (Recommended for ages 8 and older)

Laser Hollywood, Saturday, November 10, 8 p.m.
Themes from some of everyone’s favorite movies have inspired this new laser concert, including Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pink Panther, Star Wars, and Beverly Hills Cop. (Recommended for ages 6-adult)

Rockin’ Rocket Ride, Saturday, November 17, 3 p.m.
Put on your space suit and blast-off into outer space to visit the Moon, Sun and planets. The show offers a lively experience for young people, with selected music from "Journey Into Space" by Jane Murphy. It’s Pajama Day at the Planetarium, so children are encouraged to wear their PJs and bring their favorite stuffed animal. There’s no extra charge for stuffed animal friends. (Recommended for ages 3-8)

Storybooks in Space, Saturday, November 17, 4 p.m.
Enjoy story time in the Planetarium as youngsters and their families learn about the stars and planets. It’s Pajama Day at the Planetarium, so children are encouraged to wear their PJs and bring their favorite stuffed animal. There’s no extra charge for stuffed animal friends. (Recommended for ages 4-8)

To Worlds Beyond, Saturday, November 17, 7 p.m.
We’ll start with a look at what stars and planets are visible in tonight’s sky. Then take an amazing journey through our solar system, visiting each of the planets as well as the most famous dwarf planet, Pluto. The show features beautiful images taken from orbiting satellites blended with high-end animation and current information on our neighborhood of planets. (Recommended for ages 10-adult)

The RVCC Planetarium is closed for the long Thanksgiving weekend, November 22-25.
