3 actors dressed as political characters

From inspiring tales of real-life bravery and perseverance, to laugh-out-loud chuckles evoked by hilarious political comedy, The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg will offer an emotion-packed month in October. The following shows will be presented:

Seven (L.A. Theatre Works), Thursday, October 24, at 7 p.m.; $30 & $40

SEVEN tells the true stories of seven remarkable female activists who bravely fought for the well-being of women, families and children in their home countries of Pakistan, Nigeria, Ireland, Afghanistan, Guatemala, Russia and Cambodia. A collaboration between the activists and seven acclaimed female playwrights, this riveting radio-style theatre production weaves a tapestry of inspiring tales of bravery and perseverance. The work dramatizes the women’s struggles and triumphs over resistance, death threats, entrenched norms and pervasive violence. Seven makes the powerful and timeless statement that even in the darkest times, one person, one voice and a single act of courage can change the lives of thousands.

The Capitol Steps: The Lyin’ Kings, Saturday, October 26, at 8 p.m.; $40 & $50

For over 35 years The Capitol Steps have been putting politics and scandal to music. The troupe began when Reagan was president and ketchup was a vegetable. This season, The Capitol Steps plan to bring down the house – and the Senate – with the troupe’s unique blend of music and political comedy, including songs from the group’s newest album, The Lyin’ Kings. With these equal opportunity satirists poking fun at all sides of the issues, an evening with The Capitol Steps may be the only thing sure to earn bipartisan support. What more would you expect from the group that puts the “mock” in Democracy?!
