RVCC to Offer Instrumental, Dance and Vocal Performing Arts Groups for the Community

The public is invited to participate in several different performing arts groups at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg this fall. Those interested do not have to be enrolled at the College to participate in the programs, which are open to anyone who is high school-age or older.

Programs cost $50 each and auditions may be required. The programs include:

Chamber Music: September 1-December 15; days and times will be determined when the program begins

This small ensemble course provides an opportunity for the study and performance of chamber music literature in a wide variety of styles. Weekly rehearsals and one or more public performances are required. Different repertory is featured each semester. The program will help students improve their ensemble skills and music-reading ability. An audition is required.

RVCC Chorale: Mondays, September 13-December 13, 7-9:50 p.m.

This large ensemble course provides an opportunity for the study and performance of choral literature in a wide variety of styles. Weekly rehearsals and one or more public performances are required. Different repertory is featured each semester. Chorale members will be able to improve their ensemble skills and music-reading ability.

Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble: Fridays, September 3-December 10, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (no class will be held November 26)

The Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble (RVDE) is a semi-professional touring dance company that fosters the appreciation of dance as an art form by providing performance and educational programs. Through this experience, participants have the opportunity to rehearse and perform repertory in a variety of dance techniques and perform for local schools, senior centers and community groups. An audition and public performances are required.

RVCC Jazz Ensemble: Thursdays, September 2-December 16, 6:30-8:50 p.m. (no class will be held November 25)

This performance ensemble class features the study and performance of jazz. The course focuses on the exploration and development of interpretation and improvisation of compositions and arrangements in various jazz styles. An audition and public performances on- or off-campus are required. Enrollment may be limited by the needs of the ensemble.
