Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Arts & Design department will present the 18th Annual RVCC Juried Student Art Exhibition, November 5-24, in the Art Gallery at the College’s Branchburg campus. The exhibition is being coordinated by Darren McManus, Associate Professor and Art Gallery Director.

The opening reception will be held in the RVCC Art Gallery on Friday, November 5, from 5-7 p.m. As a precautionary measure against COVID-19, the reception will not include any refreshments. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Face masks are required in the Art Gallery and in all College buildings.

Student artwork completed for visual art, graphic design or interior design classes during the past year—since the Fall 2020 Semester—will be featured in the exhibition. Selected work will span a variety of media including ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, digital and multimedia, photography, illustration, interior design, video and printmaking.

Each student was permitted to submit up to three pieces of artwork for consideration. The guest juror for this year’s exhibition is Michelle Doll, artist and Adjunct Professor at New Jersey City University. Doll will evaluate all the entries, make the final selections for the exhibition and determine the award winners.

Michelle Doll’s paintings capture quiet, intimate moments hinged on personal connections between her subjects. Her paintings are imbued with intimacy, desire and connection. Born in Canton, OH, she received her BFA from Kent State University and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Her many professional acknowledgements and awards include the Prince of Wales/Forbes Foundation Travel Grant, 2006; granted Artist in Residence at Eden Rock on St. Barths (French West Indies), 2008; The Bennett Prize Honorable Mention in 2018; and a 2019 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Doll’s paintings have been exhibited in the US and internationally in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, London, Barcelona, Oslo, Salzburg and Basel, Switzerland. She currently lives and works in Hoboken.

Gallery hours are Mondays, 3-8 p.m.; Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-4 p.m. On Friday, November 5, the Art Gallery will not open until 5 p.m. For further information, contact Arts & Design, 908-218-8876.
