Getting Started - Disability Services

Getting Started - Disability Services

The first step in getting started with us is to register with our office to receive disability support and services.  To begin the process, you must complete an Application for Academic Accommodations and become familiar with our services.

Our initial registration process for support and services can be found below:

  1. Complete the application - Current and prospective Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) students should complete and submit the Application for Academic Accommodations as soon as possible, preferably before the beginning of the semester.
  2. Submit supporting documentation – To request Disability Services your application must be accompanied by supporting documentation from a qualified health care professional that describes/verifies your disability.  If you do not have any documentation on-hand, or have difficulty getting it from your health care provider, please contact the Office of Disability Services (DS) for assistance.  For more information on supporting documentation, please review the Documentation Guidelines.
  3. Schedule an intake appointment - Students who complete the application and submit supporting documentation will be contacted by a DS Representative to arrange an intake appointment. This meeting is an important part of the registration process because the students are given the opportunity to share information about their own unique experiences and limitations.
  4. Determine Disability Services eligibility – After submitting your application and supporting documentation, DS will determine your eligibility for services.  In doing so, they will discuss the requested and suggested accommodations with you during intake.
  5. Follow-up as necessary - If there is a need for additional medical documentation or a need for follow-up paperwork, DS will discuss that with you and help make a plan for accomplishing those tasks.
