News
- Promotions:
- Rola Bekdash,
Instructor of Biology since 2006, was promoted to Assistant
Professor, effective July 1.
- New Arrivals:
- Dr.
Jay Kelly, Instructor of Biology/Environmental Science, as of
July 1, 2007. Jay has a BA in Biology and a PhD in Ecology and
Evolution, both from Rutgers University. He has extensive field
research experience, both in New Jersey, and in Florida and Hawaii,
in animal, plant, and land use management.
- Dr.
Marianne Baricevic, Instructor of Biology, as of July 1,
2008. Marianne has just completed her PhD in Microbiology and
Molecular Genetics at Rutgers, from which she also received a BS in
Genetics. She has taught as an adjunct in the department since fall
2007. While at Rutgers, Dr. Baricevic was an
NSF
GK-12 Fellow (providing science instruction for middle school
students), and participated in the Douglass Summer Institute and
Weekend Academy, for high school girls.
- Dr. K. Derek
Weber,
Instructor of Biology, as of July 1, 2008. Derek has a BS in
Chemistry from Moravian College, and his PhD in Biomolecular
Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has taught
for the last three years at Broward Community College in Florida,
after a one year appointment at John Carroll University (Cleveland,
OH). In addition to this teaching duties, Dr. Weber has helped
develop BCC's biotechnology curriculum, and he has been an innovator
in classroom technology.
- Biotechnology
Seminars:
- These weekly
seminars,
part of the Biotechnology Seminar course, are open to the public.
Students who may be interested in biotechnology, as a major or as a
future interest, will particularly benefit from attending these
seminars. This semester's seminar schedule is available by clicking

Seminars: Since the Fall 1997 semester, thanks to the inspiration
and hard work of Prof. Darryl Walke, the Department has
sponsored a series of weekly Science Seminars. These talks,
which cover a wide range of topics in science, engineering,
and mathematics, are presented by faculty at Raritan Valley
Community College, as well as by members of the wider academic
and scientific community. They provide the substance for the
Honors Science Seminar (SCIE-128), but are also open to all
interested students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
For the seminar schedule for the current semester, as well as
lists of previous seminars, please

Biotechnology
Seminars:
As part of the Biotechnology Program, we are
very pleased to announce an exciting Biotechnology Seminar
Series at RVCC. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to
attend. Please go to the following link to view the schedule of
our exceptional invited guest speakers:

We look forward to seeing you!
Department
Meetings: The department meets biweekly (beginning 9 September),
at 3:15 PM in room C207 unless otherwise stated. For additional
information, please contact the department's Administrative
Assistant, Wilma Bassista: 908.526.1200 x 8817 or wbassist@raritanval.edu) |
