Paying for college doesn’t have to be stressful.

At Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), we’re committed to helping you access the financial support you need to reach your educational goals. Whether you’re a first‑time student, returning adult learner, or transfer student, applying for financial aid is the best first step toward making college affordable.

Financial Aid Application Process

Step 1: Determine Which Application You Should Complete

Most students will complete one of the following:

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Complete the FAFSA if you are a:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Permanent resident
  • Eligible non‑citizen

The FAFSA is required for federal grants, federal loans, federal work‑study, and most New Jersey state aid programs.

NJ Alternative Financial Aid Application

Complete this application if you:

  • Are not eligible to file the FAFSA, and
  • Meet New Jersey residency requirements for state aid

This application allows eligible NJ Dreamers and other qualifying students to access state‑based financial aid.

Step 2: List RVCC on Your Application

Be sure to include Raritan Valley Community College on your FAFSA or NJ Alternative Application so your information is sent directly to our Financial Aid Office.

Step 3: Submit All Required Documents

After you apply, you may be asked to provide additional information such as:

  • Tax documents
  • Verification forms
  • Proof of residency
  • Other financial records

Check your RVCC student email and Lion’s Den portal regularly to avoid delays.

Step 4: Review Your Financial Aid Offer

Once your application is processed, RVCC will send you a financial aid offer outlining the types of aid you qualify for, which may include:

  • Federal and state grants
  • RVCC scholarships
  • Federal student loans
  • Work‑study opportunities
  • NJ STARS (for eligible high‑achieving NJ students)

You’ll be able to accept, decline, or adjust your aid through your student portal.

Step 5: Maintain Eligibility

To keep receiving financial aid, students must:

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Enroll in eligible degree or certificate programs
  • Complete financial aid applications each academic year

Follow all federal and state guidelines

Important Deadlines

Applying early gives you access to the most aid. New Jersey has strict deadlines for state grants, so be sure to submit your FAFSA or NJ Alternative Application as soon as possible.
