Campus Safety
Prevention, Protection, Peace of Mind
RVCC is committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment for students, employees, visitors, and community members. Campus Security works with the College community to support a secure learning environment, respond to concerns, share safety information, and help students and visitors know where to turn when they need assistance.
Whether you are coming to campus for class, an event, a meeting, or a visit, our goal is to make sure you feel informed, supported, and prepared.
Campus Security is available to assist with safety concerns, emergency response, incident reports, parking and traffic support, lost and found items, and general questions related to campus safety.
Students, employees, and visitors are encouraged to report safety concerns promptly. If something does not feel right, or if you need help while on campus, Campus Security can help connect you with the right support.
What to do in an emergency
If there is an immediate threat to your safety or the safety of others, call 911.
For emergencies or urgent safety concerns on campus, follow instructions from law enforcement, Campus Security, and College officials. RVCC also uses emergency notification tools to communicate with the campus community during significant emergencies or dangerous situations.
In an emergency, call 911 first. Then follow any instructions provided by law enforcement, Campus Security, or RVCC emergency alerts.
Run
If there is a safe path, leave the area immediately. Leave personal belongings behind and call 911 when you are safe.
Hide
If you cannot safely leave, find a secure place out of view. Lock or barricade doors if possible, silence your phone, turn off lights, and remain quiet.
Fight
As a last resort, and only if your life is in immediate danger, act decisively to protect yourself.
When Law Enforcement Arrives
Remain calm, keep your hands visible and empty, follow instructions, and avoid sudden movements.
Campus Alerts and Timely Warnings
RVCC communicates important safety information to the campus community when there is a serious or continuing threat, significant emergency, or dangerous situation on or near campus.
Students and employees should make sure their contact information is up to date so they can receive emergency notifications.
Annual Security Report and Clery Act Information
Raritan Valley Community College complies with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, a federal law requiring colleges and universities to share information about campus crime statistics, safety policies, and emergency procedures.
RVCC’s Annual Security Report includes campus crime statistics, emergency response information, safety policies, and related resources.
Students, employees, and visitors are encouraged to report safety concerns, suspicious activity, or incidents that occur on campus. Reporting helps the College respond appropriately and maintain a safe environment for everyone.
For immediate danger, call 911. For non-emergency concerns, contact Campus Security or use the appropriate College reporting form.
Campus safety is a shared responsibility. RVCC encourages all members of the College community to stay aware of their surroundings, follow campus safety guidance, report concerns, and look out for one another.
Campus Security is here to support that work with information, response, and assistance whenever it is needed.
