3M Observatory

The 3M Observatory is open when the Planetarium is open for public shows, weather permitting. It is located on the hill outside the Planetarium, adjacent to Parking Lot 9.

October – May, Saturday evenings from about 7 p.m. to around 9 p.m.
July & August, Friday evenings, from about 9 p.m. – 10:15 p.m.

The Observatory consists of three buildings: a domed observatory, a roll-off-roof observatory, and a utility building.  The domed observatory houses a 16” Meade telescope. The roll-off-roof observatory has a 14” Celestron telescope purchased by the Somerset County 4-H.  In addition, the Planetarium has other portable telescopes in a variety of sizes that can be brought out for observing events.
