Finding Purpose & Passion: Meet Paralegal Student Angela Plummer Jones

After three decades as an administrative professional in the pharmaceutical industry, Angela Plummer Jones is proving it’s never too late to chase a new dream.
“I found myself laid off—an unexpected turn that opened the door to a new chapter in my life: returning to school!” says Angela, a May 2025 graduate of the Paralegal Studies program at Raritan Valley Community College.
Angela’s journey toward a paralegal career was foreshadowed a few years prior, when a supervisor saw something in her she hadn’t yet seen in herself. “My director at work planted a seed in my mind about exploring a career as a paralegal,” says Angela. “I realized it aligned perfectly with my interests. So when the chance presented itself to further my education, I eagerly jumped at the opportunity and dove into paralegal studies. It felt like the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my professional journey,” she says.
Angela decided to enroll at RVCC, where she could earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies in a primarily online format. “At first, I was unsure of how quickly I would acclimate to this new style of learning,” says Angela. “However, my experience in Corporate America gave me a solid foundation, allowing me to jump right in and make the most of it in no time.”
As an adult learner among a mix of traditional college students, Angela found more in common with her classmates than expected. “I've had the privilege of connecting with incredibly motivated, bright, and genuinely kind classmates,” she says. “We shared a powerful common goal: to conclude our time at RVCC not just successfully, but with a sense of distinction and pride. Together, we've inspired each other to push our limits and achieve greatness.”
Angela also praised the RVCC faculty for their dedication. “The Paralegal Studies professors are truly exceptional—some of the brightest and most dedicated educators I’ve ever encountered,” she says. “I am incredibly grateful to each of them for their support and guidance in helping me achieve my dream of becoming a paralegal,” says Angela, who made the most of her time at RVCC by proudly joining The National Society of Leadership and Success and earning spots on both the President’s and Dean’s Lists.
With her degree nearly in hand, Angela is excited to re-enter the job market. “My time at RVCC has not only equipped me with essential skills, but has also introduced me to the complex world of the legal field,” she says. “I can’t wait to put my knowledge into practice and make a meaningful impact,” says Angela, who hopes to go back to the pharmaceutical industry—but this time as a member of the legal department.
Looking back, Angela sums up her RVCC experience with gratitude and enthusiasm. “RVCC has shown me that learning doesn’t stop after graduation; it’s a lifelong endeavor. I’ve genuinely enjoyed every moment of absorbing knowledge, retaining information, and applying what I've learned,” she says. “This experience has not only equipped me with invaluable skills but has also ignited my enthusiasm for continuous learning. I am excited to embrace the next steps.”
