The public is invited to attend a special concert and masterclass presented by Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department and Music Program, Monday, November 9, at 5 p.m. The event will be held in the Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus.
The masterclass, which will feature Australian soprano-composer Amber Evans, is geared for the College’s voice students, all of whom study with RVCC faculty members Sarah Stine and Dr. Will Berman. Evans is known for her work in both early music and the exploration of the extended vocal techniques used in some types of modern music.
The program will include a short solo performance by Evans followed by a session in which she will introduce RVCC voice students to modern vocal techniques, such as overtone-singing.
Amber Evans is an Australian vocalist, conductor, and composer currently based in the US. She regularly performs as an early music soloist, chamber ensemble vocalist, and contemporary opera/vocal specialist, with consistent touring engagements in Australia, the US, and the UK. Winner of the inaugural US Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Advancement Award for the interpretation of contemporary music, she is committed to the vital artistic collaboration with composers to thoughtfully contribute to the musical canon of the present day. An exponent of the capabilities of the “extra-normal” voice, Evans has premiered over 50 specialized vocal works, engaging audiences with ever-changing insights into the paramount role of the voice in the evolution of art-making.
