Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) Visual and Performing Arts Department will present DanceWorks, an evening of student and faculty dance performances, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 30 and May 1, at 8 p.m. The event will be held in the Edward Nash Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus. The concert is being produced by Loretta Fois, Director of RVCC’s dance program.

More than 10 student pieces were chosen for the concert. The choreography includes modern dance pieces by Mikayla Ahart (Hillsborough), Alex Dougherty (Hillsborough), Elanna Etemad (Warren), Nathan Forster (Warren), Melissa Goldstein (Stockton), Emily Stecher (Berkeley Heights) and Marissa Wilkins (Raritan), as well as Chinese dance by Tina Chen (Branchburg). The student choreography is the culmination of a semester of classwork as the students created and rehearsed the new works to be performed.

Faculty choreography includes the premiere of Distraction, a collaboration between Professors Loretta Fois and Michelle Brazier of the English Department. Professor Brazier will perform the Bach Sonata III on violin, accompanied by dancer Nathan Forster. Other faculty pieces include Descend, by Adjunct Professor Marissa Aucoin. In addition, students from the HealthQuest ballet program will perform a ballet choreographed by RVCC faculty member Joanna Andriopoulos, who is also Ballet Program Director at HealthQuest of Hunterdon.

The Raritan Valley Dance Ensemble (RVDE), under the direction of Loretta Fois, will perform her piece, Gestural Jam. Ensemble members include current RVCC students and alumni and community members. In conjunction with the Visual and Performing Arts Department, RVDE provides the College and greater community with opportunities to experience and appreciate live dance performance. The touring Ensemble performs at local schools and community groups each semester, as well as at campus events. For information about scheduling a lecture/performance for a school, senior center, or community group, contact Professor Fois at lfois@raritanval.edu.
