RVCC to Present Concert Featuring Copland String Quartet
Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department will present a performance by the Copland String Quartet, Sunday, October 8, at 2 p.m. The event, part of the MOZAIKA Concert Series’ current season, will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg campus. The performance will feature music by Mozart and Ravel.
Violinists Eliezer Gutman and Thomas Jackson, violist Elizabeth Jaffe, and cellist Jennifer Jie Jin from the Delaware Symphony Orchestra are celebrating their 21st year performing together. The quartet was asked to play a concert at the Church of the Holy City in Wilmington, DE, to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Following that concert, the Church of the Holy City, with its heavenly acoustics for chamber music, became the Copeland String Quartet’s “home,” with a series of four free concerts every year.
In addition to the Church of the Holy City concerts, the quartet has performed at venues from Philadelphia to Washington, DC, including the Concerts by Candlelight Series at Laurel Hill Mansion in Philadelphia; Allentown Symphony Hall; the Tea and Symphony Series at Highlands Mansion and Garden, Fort Washington, PA; Chamber Music Series of Greater Johnstown, Johnstown, PA; the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC; Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, PA; the Champagne Chamber Series of the Delaware Symphony at the Hotel DuPont, Wilmington, DE; and the Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum in Lake George, NY.
The MOZAIKA Concert Series is designed to promote multicultural dialogue through the performance of music from the classical canon through the 21st Century. Concert proceeds will benefit the Applied Music Fund for purchases of musical instruments and scholarships for RVCC music students.
A post-performance discussion with the artists will follow the concert. General admission tickets cost $15 each; admission is free for seniors and students. For advance ticket reservations, contact the RVCC Theatre Box Office at 908-725-3420. For information, visit www.rvccmusicprogram.org.
The MOZAIKA Concert Series is made possible by funds from the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
