Raritan Valley Community College, in partnership with Sarah Trent, CEO of Valley Wellness, is offering an online New Jersey Medical Cannabis Dispensary Training course. Classes will be held Monday evenings, June 1-29, from 6-9 p.m., via RVCC’s online platforms: Zoom and Canvas. The program offers comprehensive education and training in multiple aspects of the emerging cannabis industry.

The program’s initial class—which moved to an online platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic—was highly successful and featured sold-out enrollment. The course does not require completion of any prerequisites, and participants do not have to be enrolled at the College to take the class.

According to attorney Sarah Trent, who developed the program and leads the class, “We present the information needed to effectively work in the highly regulated medical cannabis industry, and specifically in a dispensary. A20, the law that expanded the medical marijuana program in New Jersey, specifically describes the training that the legislature mandated for all Alternative Treatment Center workers, and this class endeavors to provide that training. We cover the topics that are listed in the law and more. And those topics are each covered by experts in their field.”

RVCC’s Workforce Training Center works with area industry to fill gaps in training for those businesses, such as medical cannabis dispensary applicant Valley Wellness, that are interested in hiring within the community. Valley Wellness is still waiting for acceptance of the dispensary permit from the New Jersey Department of Health.

Registration opens May 1 on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. To register, visit www.raritanval.edu/pdregistration or contact Aubrey Flanagan at aubrey.flanagan@raritanval.edu.

The course fee is $500. The program will accept tuition waivers for a limited number of veterans. Students must be at least 18 to register for the course; however, most employment in the industry requires individuals to be at least 21 years old and pass a background check.
